Thank you donors!!

May 14, 2018

My name is La’Royale Hunley and I am writing to express my sincere appreciation to all donors that I was able to be awarded this grant. I am currently an upcoming junior at Southern Illinois University and also an active brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity Inc. In addition to being an active brother, I am also the new President of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity Inc. for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. This grant has truly lifted a weight off of my shoulders because I am not in the best financial situation, but now I am able to register for classes and continue my education. I believe it’s rare for young African American men to graduate college and I’m trying my best to give it my all. With my new President position, I do plan to implement some great ideas I have and now I can due to this wonderful blessing. Thank you so much for these funds and I am beyond grateful.

On behalf of the Student Multicultural Resource Center and the Black Resource Center, I want to take this time to thank each of you for your generous donation to the Black Resource Center Emergency Tuition Fund during the fall semester.  With your unselfish donation, three, (2 seniors and 1 sophomore,) well-deserving Salukis were able to continue their education.  These three students have a combined 2.8 grade point average.  The students are very grateful for receiving this support and you can read their stories below.  Again, thank you very much for your kindness.

I am writing to thank you for very generous scholarship that will allow me to register for my classes for the spring semester. I was thrilled when I was informed that I would be receiving this scholarship as it took a lot of weight off of my shoulders and helped me keep focused on my goals.

I am an accounting major with a minor in marketing. I plan to graduate in the fall of 2018. After graduation I plan on entering the workforce and getting some hands on experience in the field. Depending on my career and financial situation at the time, I would like to be able to return to school at some point and earn my MBA. I don't currently know what type of job I am specifically looking for, but I hope to find a focus that interests me. The past couple semesters have been tough on me both financially and mentally. Honestly if I wouldn't have been able to register for my classes, I more than likely would've stopped attending SIU. This scholarship has truly helped me refocus on my goals and will allow me to worry less about money for the time being.

Once again I just wanted to thank you all so much for the scholarship and what you are allowing me to do. You have allowed me to get back to the most important part of school, learning. Not only am I representing myself and SIU, but I feel now that I also represent you because of the support that you are giving me, and I will do that to the best of my abilities.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

A. Day

My name is Jawuan Monroe and I am a senior studying Sociology with a minor in marketing here at SIU. First and foremost, I would like to thank you for helping me register for classes next semester. I will be graduating this upcoming May and will be starting Graduate School during the summer semester. This semester has been a stressful semester with family issues as well as financial and I am extremely grateful for the help that you all were able to bestow.  Hopefully this occurrence will only happen this one time as I continue to strive for my Masters.

Thank You,

J. Monroe
