This August, the National Association of Black Journalists will host its 42nd Annual NABJ Convention and Career Fair from August 9th – August 13th, 2017. The convention is open to everyone but targets journalists, media executives, public relations professionals, and students. This year’s convention offers a number of workshops on various topics such as entering the business, staying on top of your beat and many more.
We would like for seven participants of the SIU Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists to attend this momentous convention in order to gain insight as to how to deal with the everyday issues as minorities in the field of communication. We also aim to enhance our career skills and network to build lasting relationships with other NABJ students and professionals. The cost for all of us to attend is an estimated $6,310.68, and we have already received $1,600 from departments of our university.
The NABJ Convention & Career Fair has hosted many greats from CNN journalists to President Barack Obama during his first presidential campaign. The event holds seminars for all of our interests such as sports reporting, television news, print news and more. Additionally, we would have the opportunity to be ambassadors for our programs at SIU and share our experience as Salukis with other NABJ students, mass media students, and professionals.
Our group would benefit greatly from attending the national NABJ Convention & Career Fair in August. This is an opportunity for NABJ-SIU to gain experience and grow through professional development. The NABJ-SIU chapter is a group of passionate, hardworking and dedicated students. We are all focused on creating futures that will not only make us successful, but also make us happy. Our group motto is: Productivity, Progression, and Positivity. Being able to attend this convention will help us continue to uplift the words our organization stands by, and any financial help that you could extend to us would be greatly appreciated.

As an associate producer you can help us pay for a portion of one member's registration fee.
As a producer you can help us pay for more than half of one member's one-way airfare.
As an anchor you can help us pay for the majority of one member's registration.
As a director you can help us pay for one member's entire airfare and a portion of another member's airfare.
