Dental Hygiene 60th Anniversary

Support the Dental Hygiene Program

Celebrate 60 Years of Dental Hygiene and Support Our Students!

Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the College of Health and Human Sciences would like to thank the Dental Hygiene faculty, students, alumni, and friends for 60 years of service, dedication, and loyalty. Our first class graduated in 1963 with an associate degree in dental hygiene. In December 1999, we proudly graduated our first class of baccalaureate degree students. Each year for the Dental Professionals Seminar and throughout the year, we brainstorm for fundraising opportunities to ensure our students receive the best training and educational experience while at SIU.

Help us celebrate our 60th anniversary and support the next generation of SIU Dental Hygienists by donating to the Dental Hygiene Development Fund. This account enables us to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for our clinic and provide scholarships for our students. This is the first year our dental hygiene class will be given the opportunity to graduate with laser certification. Each scholarship for the laser certification is $250Any gift, small or large, will help us provide our students the laser certification scholarships and purchase equipment needed in our clinic.

Lasers in dental hygiene can be extremely beneficial to reduce bacteria, sensitivity, and inflammation as well as promoting healing from ulcerations in and around the oral cavity. Our graduates are employed in many states around the country and abroad and laser certification would enhance their abilities and skills and provide excellent care to patients.

We encourage dental hygiene alumni to donate to help provide valuable training for our students. When you see a former Saluki, encourage them and reach out to help with their dental hygiene journey. Thank you for your support, Go Dawgs!
