Take a virtual road trip back to Carbondale!

Exclusive Movie Screening:  I Used to Go Here

Calling All Salukis! - Join fellow SIU alums for a special preview screening of SIU alumna Kris Rey's new film, I Used To Go Here.  This is an opportunity to view this charming and funny movie before the national release to the public!  And as an added bonus:  an exclusive Q&A with Kris immediately following the film.

About the Film:  A 35-year-old debut novelist, played by Gillian Jacobs (Community, Love), who is invited to give a reading at her alma mater in downstate Carbondale, Ill.  After accepting the invitation, Kate finds herself deeply enmeshed in the lives of a group of college students.  For more information on the film, click here.  For the Chicago Sun-Times review, click here.

How it Works: Just make a donation of $10 or more to receive a “ticket” to I Used to Go Here, which will be streamed on Thursday, August 6th, 2020.  All proceeds of the screening will go to support SIU students.  Around noon on Thursday August 6th, all donor “ticketholders” will receive a link to the streaming site where donors can watch the film between 5:00 PM and Midnight only.  All times are CST.

About the Fund:  All proceeds of the screening will go MCMA’s Student Production and Research Fund. This fund provides production and post-production grants to students who have achieved junior or senior status at the time of application.  A grant of up to $500 is open to any film, video, and audio production students who are creating a short film/video (15 mins or shorter) or audio project (30 mins or shorter).

About the Filmmaker: Kris Rey (formerly Swanberg) began her film career at Southern Illinois University where she studied documentary film production. Using naturalistic techniques and often working with non-actors, Rey went on to focus her career in narrative film. Her first feature, It was great, but I was ready to come home played in competition at the SXSW Film Festival in 2009, followed by her next feature, Empire Builder (2012) and short film Baby Mary (2014). Her third feature Unexpected premiered in competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Rey lives in Chicago and teaches film production at Northwestern University.
