Our Crowdfunding Groups
The Southern Illinois University Department of Aviation Management and Flight is launching this campaign to secure additional funding to offset the cost of equipping our fleet of 30+ Cessna aircraft with, ADS-B Out equipment.
ADS-B, or, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast is a revolutionary approach to air navigation that will allow aircraft to transmit their location in real time to other properly equipped aircraft in the area, as well as FAA controlling agencies. The FAA has mandated that all aircraft operating within the controlled portions of the National Airspace System must be equipped with ADS-B (Out) by 2020.
As of now, we have already equipped several of our newer aircraft with ADS-B Out, but we are still a long shot away from being 100% compliant with the FAA's mandate by 2020.
The money not used on ADS-B equipment will directly fund our fleet replacement initiative as several of our aircraft are reaching 40+ years of age and need to be replaced.
We are asking our alumni, students, friends, family, industry partners, and the general public for your generosity as we begin transitioning our fleet into the next generation of aviation.
Furthermore, the SIU Chancellor and Provost have agreed to match any and all donations up to $300,000, totaling $600,000, by June 30th 2016.
All donations are being made through the SIU Foundation, and as such, are tax deductible.
