What is it about: Precision agriculture uses satellite or site specific data acquisition to spatially and temporally observe, and measure variability in crops. Combined with other sources of information such as soil analyses and costs of inputs, the data gathered would allow specific management decision to be made resulting in more efficient production and reduced environmental impacts.
Where will the money be used: To purchase the precision agriculture GPS and software to enhance the teaching of our students, research, and sustainability goals. The project would connect agronomic production of our farm with classroom activities using this precision technology.
Who benefits: The next generation farmer! This is the future of agronomic production system decision making and to remain a leader in educating the next generation farmer, we must provide and teach these tools. The data collected will be used to operate our farm system more efficiently, be a tool for educating our students, and be used in current and future research projects.
