About Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is a platform for student groups, research projects, and athletics at Southern Illinois University to raise funds for their projects and initiatives.  It allows students and other campus community members to grow into leaders and encourages a community of philanthropy on campus.

SIU Carbondale FAQ

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a type of online giving that harnesses the power of the community through many smaller gifts as opposed to singular major gifts.

Where does the money given on this page go?

The money goes toward the specific project you donate to minus a small administrative fee.  For our charitable disclosure visit http://www.siuf.org

I have a student group on campus that needs funding.  How can I apply?

Our application is located at the top right corner of this page.

How can funds raised through crowdfunding be accessed?

Funds raised for specific projects/campaigns will be deposited in the appropriate Foundation account designated for the said purpose.  SIU foundation staff will work with the project team leaders to set up an account (if a new fund needs to be established) or designate an already-existing account for depositing gifts received from such efforts.

What is an appropriate funding goal for projects?

We recommend a fundraising goal of between $5,000 - $10,000.  Project goals will vary depending on the nature of the project and what the project hopes to accomplish from this fundraising effort.

Who determines if a project will be selected for the crowdfunding platform?

A team comprised of professionals from the Foundation will review the applications and approve them based on various criteria including, but not limited to, project fundability, commitment of potential time from group members, project appeal, and the potential to achieve the goal.
